The innovative material used in the Acuvue Trueye contact lens is Narafilcon B, a silicon hydrogel material that allows oxygen to pass through the contact to the cornea, helping to resolve the problem of eye irritation for many. The silicon hydrogel material is than saturated with a wetting agent to create a moist, smooth surface on the contact further reducing the chances of the contact causing eye irritation and increasing the comfort of the lens.

Another unique and important design feature is the protection the Acuvue Trueye lenses provide from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. Acuvue Trueye lenses block a minimum of 96% UVA rays and a minimum of 99% UVB rays. While this protection does not eliminate the need to wear sunglasses it is the highest level of protection offered by any lens on the market today.

The Acuvue Trueye also has an inside/outside indicator and are tinted to make it easier to insert the lenses.

Developed by Vistakon a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., Acuvue Trueye lenses have been available overseas for some time and were approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in June 2010 for distribution in the United States.

The Vistakon lens was tested in a 94 subject group comparing patients wearing Acuvue Trueye with patients who had never worn contact lenses. The random, investigator masked subject study reported after one month that those wearing Acuvue Trueye experienced comfort levels similar to those wearing no lenses.
